When I first started my coaching business, I didn't have a niche.

I wanted to help everybody.

The problem was, when you're trying to help everybody, it can become really hard to explain exactly what you do and who you help. I had to take some time to figure out where I wanted to focus my business.

And if you're still figuring out your coaching niche, that's okay. You don't have to have the perfect answer overnight.

Here are a few things that can help.

Start With Who You Want to Help

Think about the people you genuinely enjoy helping.

What are they struggling with? What do they want to accomplish? And most importantly, is their problem something you actually want to help them solve?

Your niche isn't just about choosing a group of people. It's also about getting clear on the problem you want to be known for helping them with.

That clarity makes it much easier to talk about your coaching and create content that connects with the right people.

Look at What You Already Know

You don't always have to invent your niche from scratch.

Look at your own experiences, skills, and knowledge.

What do people already come to you for?

What could you talk about or teach without struggling to come up with something to say?

Sometimes the clues to your niche are already there. You just have to pay attention to them.

Give Yourself Room to Figure It Out

This is a big one.

You don't have to choose a niche today and feel like you're stuck with it forever.

Your business can change as you change.

Mine certainly has.

You may start working with one type of client and realize you really enjoy helping another. Or you may discover that one particular problem is what you really want to be known for.

Give yourself permission to learn as you go.

Let Your Niche Make Marketing Easier

Once you're clearer about who you help and what you help them with, your marketing gets a whole lot easier.

You know who you're talking to.

You know what kinds of problems to create content around.

And you can create offers that make sense for the people you're trying to reach.

That's why finding your niche isn't about putting yourself in a box.

It's about giving your coaching business some direction.

You can always make adjustments along the way.
