Business Mistakes I Made as a Coach—and What They Taught Me
This article goes along with Episode 11 of the AI Client Attraction Podcast, where I share some of the business mistakes I’ve made, what they taught me, and why sometimes changing your strategy is exactly what your business needs.

I've been in business a long time, and I can tell you this: not everything I've tried has worked.

I've had strategies that worked really well, things I probably held onto longer than I should have, and times when I wasn't nearly as consistent as I needed to be.

But those mistakes taught me a lot.

Mistake #1: Not Showing Up Consistently

There have been times when I wasn't consistent with my marketing.

And when you stop showing up, people have fewer opportunities to find you, learn from you, and eventually work with you.

That doesn't mean you have to post every day or market your business everywhere.

It means choosing a few ways you're going to market your coaching business and actually sticking with them.

Mistake #2: Depending Too Much on One Platform

For a long time, I relied heavily on Facebook.

And while Facebook can absolutely be part of your marketing strategy, I learned that I didn't want my entire business depending on one platform.

That's one reason I started looking at other ways to create content that could continue working for me longer—like my podcast, articles, email list, and other content people can find over time.

Your marketing doesn't have to be everywhere, but it helps to have more than one way for people to find you.

Mistake #3: Doing Things Because That's What You're “Supposed” to Do

This may be one of my biggest lessons.

It's easy to look at what other coaches are doing and think you need to do the same thing.

But every strategy isn't going to make sense for your business.

Instead of constantly asking, “What should I be doing?”, I've learned to ask:

“What makes sense for my business right now?”

That's a very different question.

Sometimes Your Strategy Needs to Change

Changing your strategy doesn't mean you failed.

Sometimes you've simply learned enough to know that something isn't working anymore.

Look at what's bringing people into your world. Pay attention to where your clients are coming from. Notice what's taking a lot of your time without giving you much in return.

Then give yourself permission to make changes.

Because one of the biggest things business has taught me is this:

You don't have to keep doing something just because it's what you've always done.

Your business is going to change. Your marketing will change too.

And sometimes the best thing you can do is take what you've learned, make an adjustment, and keep moving forward.
